Excellence is not inherited, winners do not wake up with a medal, there is no mysterious force or connections that will make you a successful athlete. Behind every award, winning, personal best, there are hundreds of hours of workout, persistence, ups and downs, tears, injuries. When you find your idol, remember that his/her first step was equally hard as yours today, and it is still hard. Find a way to motivate yourself!
When you have been doing nothing for a long time, it sometimes gets hard to pick up your butt and move. To change your habits you need determination and you need to start now. Don’t wait for Monday, the 1st of the month, don’t wait for your project to finish, or your friend to join you. Believe us this never works.
Maybe you have been working hard for months, even years and you feel like you have hit the wall. Be calm, everyone gets there eventually. You may feel a lack of energy, you may even perform less, or you’ll have a hard time motivating yourself to keep pushing forward.
No matter when you lose motivation, there’s always a way to overcome this gap in your workout and to motivate yourself. Sometimes it is easy, sometimes you need to look deep inside yourself and find the strength to pick yourself up a move forward no matter what.
When you start, you start right now. Nothing will be done by itself. You have to do it. Looking at your abs, or thinking of doing a plank, is nothing. You have to make an effort.
Getting better isn’t a hack or a trick or one change that you need to make. It’s a campaign, it’s a daily fight that doesn’t stop against weakness, temptation, laziness, it’s a campaign of discipline and hard work, dedication.
If you have a strong vision and strong enough reasons, they will push you through the tough times and you’ll do things that other people don’t.
It’s not what you’re capable of, it’s what you’re willing to do. So, what is your excuse, why are you stopping yourself?
You have to take action and ignore everyone else. You got to love yourself, trust yourself. To help you motivate yourself, here are a few tips to overcome the tough times.
Think about what you want to achieve with your workout. Is it a number of repetition, weight, or maybe you want to prepare yourself for a race or some other competition. If it’s a race, mark the date and make a schedule of your workouts. Be aware that you have to do it by the book, and procrastination is not an option. Mark every workout in your schedule giving it the highest importance.
Remember, you’ll have days when you won’t feel like working out, but go anyway. Workout, train, run, it doesn’t matter how well you’ll perform that day, it’s important that you follow your schedule. Set your eyes on your goal and no obstacle will be a problem, just one more day when you’ll have to push a little bit harder.
Set a goal that is achievable for you considering how fit you’re right now and knowing your limits. What goal would be satisfying for you, what goal would really make you happy, what goal seems unbelievable? Don’t set a bar to high, but don’t either set it too low. If you’re a little bit scared of reaching your goal then it’s probably the right one.
If you like games, winning points and getting a reward, then you should challenge yourself. Besides setting a goal you have to set a reward that you’ll get when you reach your goal.
It could be going to the gym 4 times a week for a month, two or three. And reward? Maybe you wish to buy yourself new sports shoes, a new outfit, or buying a plane ticket, a new watch, something that is equally something that you need and an expense over which you have doubts… Although you could get it right now, make it a challenge that the only way you can get it is by reaching your goal.
Telling everyone about your challenge is a good way to make a promise and to motivate yourself to keep the focus on the goal. We sometimes go easy on ourselves. We’ve heard so many times “if I miss it once it’s not a big deal”. Well, if you make it a challenge and you want to succeed, it is a big deal. If you start your challenge and you decide that for the next 30 days you’ll be doing 30 pushups every day at once, if you miss one day, you have to start your challenge from the beginning. If you give yourself a slack there is more chance that you’ll do it again and again. Why do you want to cheat on yourself? That’s why make a promise to everyone around you. Put it on your social media. When we give a promise to someone else it has more strength then giving it to ourselves.
Uf, this is a tricky one. If you’re not determined and you need motivation, you need a companion that won’t ever give up and won’t give you a slack. This workout partner has to have goals of his own, has to be determined, persistent and is willing to push you and support you along the way. He/She is not a quitter! You can’t persuade him to cut the workout. He/she is that person who will say “yes you can” when you say “I can’t do it”. He/she is usually your “crazy” friend.
How many times have you seen some movie or listened to someone’s life story and you felt that urge that you want to make a difference, that you want to change something. Have you ever said to yourself – what’s your excuse? If you are healthy, you can do anything you want. It may be challenging for you, but there is always a way, you just have to start now. If you are not sure what to do next, ask someone you trust, watch an inspiring video. People around you have remarkable stories, their victories seem unbelievable but their path is not so different than the one you have to go to reach your goal. There are also great books that can inspire you to move forward and reach your excellence!
